Port of Antwerp-Bruges is the second largest port in Europe, with more than 300 liner services to more than 800 destinations, thereby ensuring worldwide connectivity. Every year, we handle around 290 million tonnes of international maritime cargo and we are home to Europe's largest integrated chemical cluster.

 

The port employs, directly and indirectly, a total of around 164,000 people and generates added value of more than €21 billion. As such, it is an important lifeline for the Belgian economy.

International connections

Thanks to a worldwide network of representatives, Port of Antwerp-Bruges plays a central role in international trade.

 

Furthermore, subsidiary Port of Antwerp-Bruges International (PoABI) supports and strengthens overseas ports and terminals through consultancy, management solutions, investment projects and training.

The maritime training centre APEC trains professionals from all over the world.

Extra container capacity Antwerp (ECA)

Container traffic plays a key role for Port of Antwerp-Bruges as an economic engine. With the ECA project, we are giving substance, together with Maatschappij Linkerscheldeoever and the Flemish government, to the sustainable development and efficient use of the port area.

 

In addition, we are accelerating the greening of the entire container sector. That way, as a world port, we are guaranteeing the provisioning of our country and the prosperity of current and future generations.

Second sea lock Zeebrugge

The Pierre Vandamme lock is currently the only access to the Zeebrugge inner port. A second sea lock is essential for optimising nautical access to and development of the inner port. The Flemish government is therefore working on a new access to the port.
